After months of preparation, our team at Smiles Unite Us embarked on a journey that would change lives forever. On February 15th, we touched down in Karachi, Pakistan, ready to provide life-changing surgical care to children born with cleft lip and palate. Over the course of a week, our dedicated team performed 20 transformative surgeries, giving children the chance to smile, speak, and thrive.

More Than a Mission—A Commitment to Lifelong Care
For many surgical missions, a trip consists of a one-time effort: a team of doctors arrives, performs a set number of surgeries, and departs—often never seeing their patients again. But at Smiles Unite Us, we do things differently. Our work is not just about a single surgery; it’s about a continuum of care that lasts until each child reaches adulthood.
As Dr. Khurram Khan explains, “If a child is born with a cleft lip and palate, they don’t just need one surgery. It’s a journey—a minimum of ten procedures over the course of their childhood and adolescence. They need their cleft lip repaired, then their palate, then speech therapy, then bone grafting, then jaw surgery, and often a nose revision. The difference is—we come back. And when they need us, they will always see my face.”
That’s the Smiles Unite Us difference: true continuity of care. While many teams come and go, our promise is to return, to track progress, and to ensure every patient receives the full spectrum of treatment they deserve.

The Impact of Our Work
This trip was not just about the numbers—though 20 surgeries in one week is an incredible feat. It was about the stories, the families, and the transformation. We witnessed children take their first steps toward a future where they can smile with confidence. We met parents who had spent years searching for help, only to finally receive the care their child needed.
And we worked alongside surgeons who were so moved by this mission that they all committed to returning in November—because, in their words, “You are doing something no one else does.”

Your support can:
The work doesn’t stop here. We are committed to returning in November to continue these life-changing procedures, but we need your support to make it happen.
